Around 1976/77 there was a lot happening in the music field with the outbreak of Punk music and culture - I photographed musicians at gigs.
There was a vibrant music scene going on in and around Brighton at that time notably The Piranhas, The Vandells, The Techniques, Peter and the Test-Tube Babies, Dick Damage and The Splinters, The Chefs, Smeggy and The Cheesey Bits, The Lillettes, The Ijax All-Stars, Joby and The Hooligans, The Hot Gates … to name but a few, where are they now?
This blog will include notices about art and Art and ART. I will post stuff that inspires me and that I think worth promoting. I will post material about artists who I encounter in my life and whose work I want to promote and possibly sell.
Mostly these artists will be alive, active and struggling but not in every case for example Peter Gee died in 2005 and of this date January 2014 his name and work are relatively unknown - he was born in Leicestershire England and worked during the 1960s in New York sharing a print-maker with and influencing Andy Warhol.
Peter Gee worked commercially on prints for Merryl Lynch and IBM, he was a colour theorist and experimented with new inks and pigments.
I think that his work merits a major retrospective show somewhere like TATE Britain - it is said that his work cannot be appreciated in lithographs or copies because his colours were so vibrant - the work (mainly prints) must be seen in the original and to me that is important - that a piece of work be encountered close up, one to one as a personal encounter.
Peter Gee's prints are in M.O.M.A. in New York and the V&A in London.
Original, unique, signed and dated work by Peter Gee from 1965 may be bought through this blog - call 07958607408 or email paul.roundhill@yahoo.co.uk.
Contemporary reproductions of Peter Gees prints can be viewed and bought through the Peter Gee foundation. See PeterGee.com.
Other artists represented on this blog include Brendan Quick, Peter Doherty, Peter Wolfe, Paul Roundhill and Hugh Sowden.
There will be regular updates.
