Brendan Quick - short resumé, video interview and photos of recent move to new studio.

Brendan Quick was born in London and brought up in Cork and Dublin, Eire.

He says: He ran away to London in the 1980s to be a poet.

He saw a De Cirico at the Tate Gallery and thought "I can do that!"

He began his art career with poetry/propaganda, he was impressed by oil paintings of the Vorticist group, also Futurism - he says "any sort of 'ism' ".

Brendan Quick wrote about art for Time Out magazine and Frieze.

He attended Hornsea college of art and studied under Marc Camille-Chaimowitz.

Subsequently he worked for the Maureen Paley gallery and at Anthony D'Offay.

He curated "Rock My World" in the Kings Road described by Time Out as the best show of 1994.

Brendan Quick took a Masters (MA) at the Slade in the early 90s receiving a never-before-awardeed distinction.

He was invited by Paul Noble to contribute paintings, films and installations to City Racing.

Around this time Brendan encountered artist Gavin Turk and other Y.B.A.s (Young British Artists).

Brendan Quick has exhibited work at countless artist run spaces as well as Tate Modern and I.C.A.

Brendan has shown a long-lasting love affair with painting and demonstrates considerable mastery of the medium although a radical and conceptual streak has perhaps frustratingly not allowed for a clear and consistent career path. He is widely read and a penetrating thinker and talker who always is at the centre of activity with other artists. He currently lives and works in Shoreditch and some photos here hi-light moments in a recent move to a new flat/studio.

He curated "Rock My World" in the Kings Road described by Time Out as the best show of 1994.
